Where The Parsonian Hotel now sits, 18th and Broadway, was previously the site of the Orpheum Theatre. Opening night for the theatre was December 22, 1904 showing the stage preformance of "Wizard of Oz" to a full house. The Orpheum Theatre, a 4 story theatre built in 1904 by the Elks Lodge at the cost of $65,000, was completely destroyed by fire December 20, 1939. Originally called Elks Theatre, it was renamed in 1914.
